Abstract

This research aims to investigate Mauss' contribution to the development of 'sociologie religieuse' research programme undertaken through 'Année sociologique', to help understand the collaboration between Durkheim and Mauss in the light of the framework of the division of labor of the Durkheimian school. Thus, we selected a set of Mauss' studies between 1898 and 1913 regarding religious phenomena, taking as reference the 'sociologie religieuse' section of 'Année sociologique' first series and, mainly, his unfinished thesis on prayer. The main idea is to connect Mauss' reviews and articles published in 'Année sociologique' to understand the scope of problems which the 'sociologie religieuse' intended to cover and what were results obtained therefrom. This is crucial to investigate our hypotheses, namely: 1) the transformation of Durkheim's theory of religion under the influence of the works of Mauss; and 2) Mauss' construction of a theory of social action incorporated in Durkheim's theory. Therefore, by testing the hypotheses which intend to establish the impact of Mauss' production on Durkheim's social theory, we will be able to ascertain if there was a collaboration between Durkheim and Mauss in the Durkheimian school.
