Abstract

Magnetic skyrmions corresponds to a spin distribution pointing in all directions around a sphere, and they are present in ferromagnetic materials, liquid crystals, Bose-Einstein condensates and others. Recently, magnetic skyrmions were also observed in chiral magnets. In these materials, skyrmions form a vortex-like structure and organize themselves in a regular triangular lattice due to the repulsive interaction between them.One of the main features of a skyrmion is its capacity to move due to the application of an external spin-polarized current. This is a very promising characteristic for spintronics applications, since skyrmions can be manipulated with low energy cost. Hence, understanding the skyrmion dynamics and controlling its motion in these materials is crucial to future technological applications. In this research project, we will simulate the skyrmions dynamics in 2D chiral magnet under the influence of periodic pinning arrays at zero temperature. For this purpose, we will simulate using different periodic arrays, such as: square, triangular, Kagomé and honeycomb, and we will vary the applied magnetic field in order to control the skyrmion density inside the sample. We will also verify if the commensurability effects influence on the dynamical regimes and depinning forces. The internship is a great opportunity to learn more about skyrmion dynamics and efficient computational methods to perform our simulations. (AU)
