Microtomography analysis of tissue repair of resinous endodontic sealers in critical surgical defects in rat calvaria

Abstract

The aim of this study will be to evaluate in vivo the tissue response and its capacity of bone repair of Sealer Plus and AH Plus® endodontic cements compared to the control group. The materials will be implanted in the calvaria of 48 Wistar rats, Split into groups of 8 animals for the experimental periods of 7 and 30 days. After each postoperative period, the animals will be euthanized and the calvarias will be removed and fixed in 10% formalin. Then, six pieces of each experimental period will be analyzed in Computerized Microtomography (MicroCT). The other pieces will be analyzed by eletronic scanning microscopy by energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM/EDS). The microtomographic analyzes and SEM/EDS will reveal the bone neoformation and the elemental chemical composition of each material, respectively. The results for the newly formed volume will be analyzed by the ANOVA test and the elemental composition will be described in percentages for each sample, the level of significance between groups being 5% (p <0.05).
