Abstract The proposed project aims the development of nanomaterials with specific and multiple functionalities. The idea is to prepare superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles and functionalize their surfaces with different phosphonic acid-terminated polymers, combining the thermoresponsive PNIPAM (poly (N-isopropylacrylamide)) and PEO (poly(ethyleneoxide)) to modulate the nanoparticles interfacial and self-assembly properties. The co-addition of these two polymers would also fine tune the temperature-induced phase transition reversibility. The potential applicability of the prepared hybrid materials as biomarkers for biological applications will be investigated. The combination of a thermoresponsive polymer and a magnetic nanoparticle into a single material with intermediate wettability and possibly a surface organization (patchy or Janus) might pave the way to novel smart nanomaterials applications. | |
