Abstract

This project proposes to investigate how the activities of supplies and inspection bound to Almotacés and the city council's agents of São Paulo were held between 1808 to 1841 when important political and institutional's changes were ongoing. In these terms, based on the analysis of the Almotacés and the council's agents' path, this project intends to understand how the urban public administration took place at São Paulo, especially after the regulatory law of 1st October 1828 that established the distinguished between administration and justice in the City Council's actions as well as the extinction of the Almotacés. Therefore, at this project we aim to ponder how the resolution of posture and urban conflicts linked to police tasks of welfare of the city were performed by the inspectors after the Almotacés' extinction, take into account that this moment in which the city council had lost - at least in the independent Brazil's legislation - its contentious ability.
