Abstract

This study aims to confirm the auto nomination of High-Abilities/Giftedness (HA/G) in undergraduate students, as well as to identify and describe their social skills and the presence of indicators of anxiety and depression, considering gender, college course and year comparing them with undergraduate students without academic HA/G. First to third year students of twenty courses from three colleges of a public university, located in a city of the state of São Paulo, will participate. Data will be gathered at the university and at the Center of Applied Psychology (CPA, in Portuguese). The study will be conducted into four stages: 1) Publicizing of the research and group filling of the instruments: Questionnaire of Sociodemographic Information and Questionnaire for Identification of Indicators of High Abilities / Intellectual Giftedness - Adults (QIIHAIG-adults) to identify auto nomination of HA/G; 2) The undergraduate students that auto nomination with HA/G will respond at the CPA in group and/or individual (the undergraduate students´s choice according to their availability), the Evaluation of Social Skills, Behaviors, and Contexts for Undergraduate Students Questionnaire (Q-ACC-VU-undergraduate students), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the Raven Advanced Progressive Matrices (APM); 3) Participants who reach 90% or higher in APM will individually respond to the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-III) and Social Skills Inventory (SSI). For confirm academic HA/G the participants should have IQ 130 or higher. Other students who do not meet the criteria of the WAIS-III will compose the comparison group; 4) After the instruments assessment, a feedback of the results will be made individually and, also, the indication of further referrals according to results of HA/G, Social Skills, anxiety and depression. Statistical analyzes will be performed using Student's t-test for independent samples for comparison between groups, such as: gender; areas and college years; and groups: undergraduate students identified and not identified with academic HA/G.Whenever the comparison involves three variables, analysis of variance (ANOVA) will be used, for example: courses in different areas and college years, and anxiety, depression and social skills of students identified and not identified with academic HA/G. When the comparison involves two or more dependent and independent variables, multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) will be used. If the data are not normally distributed, non-parametric tests equivalent to those cited will be used. The analyzes will be carried out using the software Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).
