Abstract

Physical inactivity is an alarming risk factor for noncommunicable diseases, and, consequently, higher use of health services. However, it is still necessary to broaden the research that verifies the relationships between physical activity (PA) and the use of health services in the levels of primary, secondary and tertiary care among individuals with different patterns of long-term PA practice. Objective: To evaluate the association between different patterns of physical activity practice and use of health services over 20 years. Methods: This is a longitudinal and retrospective study that will analyze a sample of 13,715 Australian elderly women from the "Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health" survey. Sociodemographic characteristics, health conditions, records of use of the health services on the Australian Medicalcare system will be analyzed. PA levels will be measured using the modified Active Australia questionnaire and selected four patterns of PA practice behavior over 20 years. Descriptive analyzes will be performed and generalized linear models will be used to verify the associations between the different patterns of physical activity and use of health services at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels, considering p <0.05. Expected results: It is expected that women who have practiced PA for longer periods and in a more constant way will be less likely to use health services, especially at the secondary and tertiary levels.
