Abstract

Experimental studies have demonstrated that unilateral renal ischemia can cause damage to the non-ischemic counter-lateral kidney through an inflammatory mechanism described as kidney-kidney crosstalk. The crosstalk phenomenon seems to be influenced by the clamping time and the type of clamping used: exclusive renal artery or renal artery and vein simultaneously. The purpose of this research is to perform an immunohistochemical study on renal biopsies of pigs in order to identify immune markers capable of confirming the mechanism of crosstalk between ischemic and non ischemic kidneys.
