Abstract

The objective of this trial will be to estimate the requirement of threonine for Japanese quails. A total of 392 birds, 14 weeks old, distributed in a completely randomized design with 8 treatments (threonine levels), seven replicates and seven birds per experimental unit were used. Experimental diets will be formulated according to the dilution technique, where a diet with a high crude protein content and a protein-free diet will be formulated, then dilutions of the diets will be made to obtain increasing levels of digestible threonine (0.156; 0.312, 0.390, 0.546, 0.624, 0.702 and 0.780%). The control treatment will be added to confirm if the experimental responses will be due to the threonine limitation. This level will be obtained by adding 98% L-Threonine to the most deficient level (0.156 + 30g of 98% L-Threonine). The supply of feed will be at will and the leftovers will be quantified weekly. In the test, the production of eggs (%), weight of eggs (g), egg mass (g), ingestion of threonine (mg/bird/day) and body weight of birds will be evaluated. The Reading model will be used to estimate the requirement for threonine.
