Abstract

Citrus industry contributes to the highest volume of Brazilian fruit production, obtained with high orchard productivity, as a result of the adoption of technologies such as planting densification, fertilization and irrigation. However, the increase in the incidence of phytosanitary problems, mainly huanglongbing (HLB), pressure production costs and reduce the sustainability of the sector. The causal agent of HLB is a phloem-restricted bacterium (Candidatus Liberibacter) that impairs water and nutrient absorption and causes economic death of the plant, as it affects the phloem. Despite the advances in fertilizer management, little was discussed about the relationship between nutritional status and severity of citrus diseases such as HLB. Thus, it is necessary to characterize processes between the nutritional status and the predisposition of citrus plants to the infection and severity of HLB that help in the elucidation of the plant-pathogen relationship. The research proposal deals with the nutritional management, biochemical responses (carbohydrate metabolism and oxidative stress) and physiological, and biomass partitioning that may result in the greater tolerance of the plants to the disease.
