School architecture concepts: pilot game for mass plan development

Abstract

Research shows that rethinking education entails multidisciplinary thinking and must include all agents involved in the process. Reflection about the spatial quality of the school building requires an understanding of the design process employed by architects who engage in school design and look for tools that may enhance the design's final quality. The design party, which lays out the concepts that need to be met by the design, is defined in the early stages of the creative process. In this research project we will examine the concepts that may be used in defining the party in the synthesis stage. These concepts will be defined by a theoretical and practical study of the design process in school architecture and will serve as the theoretical foundation for developing a pilot project for a game to be used as a supporting dynamic for the mass plan. In methodological terms, a bibliographic review will be carried out to identify the concepts present in literature. Such concepts will be validated in interviews with agents involved in school design. Next, an experimental game will be developed that will serve as support to architects. The game will then be tested and a final version will be developed. The aim of this research project is to contribute to the discussion about the concepts of school architecture and to develop a pilot tool that may help perfect the design process.
