Abstract

In this project we will seek to construct an framework of recent sociological production in the area of race relations in Brazil, which will allow us to demonstrate the routes, developments and innovations of the area, which may represent theoretical-methodological contributions for the development of Brazilian Sociology. The time cut is between 2001 - the year of the so-called Durban Conference in South Africa - until 2019. In a more specific way, we will try to: a) Analyze how Brazilian researchers in the area of Sociology have developed their scientific work in the theme of Racial Relations, through their empirical and theoretical choices; b) To understand how the researches carried out in Brazil have dialogued with the transnational experience of the African diaspora, seeking to highlight the theoretical and methodological results of these dialogues. The analysis is based on the mapping of theses and dissertations defended since 2001 in the area of Sociology and in depth interviews conducted with research guidance teachers that are present in the mapping, so that the information helps us to consolidate an analytical framework with the characteristics of the field and its sociological contributions. Our methodological strategies and the sociological discussion of the data will be given with the support of Content Analysis; surveys and mapping already in Brazil and abroad on research in race relations; besides the contributions of the so-called Sociology of Racial Relations and Postcolonial Studies.
