Abstract

This project is an investigation about the discourse of the identity representation of the foreigner in the 1930's, constituted as an inhabitant sometimes desirable or undesirable, considering your ethnic group, culture or religion, normaly built in the relationship of difference with the "other". Thus, the main objective is analyze the representation of the foreigner in five Brazilian novels published in 1939: As Três Marias (1939), by Rachel de Queiroz, Enquanto as águas correm (1939), by Cyro Martins, Planalto (1939), by Flávio de Campos, Riacho Doce (1939), by José Lins do Rego and Um rio imita o Reno (1939) by Vianna Moog. For this purpose, will be considered studies on representation (HALL, 2016), on the Cultural Poetics Teixeira (2003; 2006), and on the Brazilian Romance of 1930 (BUENO, 2006), as well as the socio-historical context of production and publication of novels and the contemporary and post-romance critique.
