Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the resistance to staining and surface roughness of composites processed by CAD/CAM. One hundred and twenty specimens will be fabricated, 30 (n=10) in composite resin (Filtek Z350, 3M ESPE), 30 (n=10) in ceramic (IPS emax Press) and 60 (n=20) in hybrid ceramic - CAD/CAM (Lava Ultimate, 3M ESPE). Color (on white background) and translucency (on white and black backgrounds) readouts will be obtained with two different equipments: PCB 6807 (Byk Gardner) and Vita Easyshade (VITA Zahnfabrik), according the CIE L * a * b * color system. The surface roughness will be evaluated quantitatively (Surftest SJ-201P, Mitutoyo ®, Kanagawa, Japan) and qualitatively (confocal Microscopy scanning laser, Leica TCS SP5 will, Mannhein, Germany). Samples will be separated into 3 groups, according to the type of treatment to be submitted: coffee staining (3h / day, 30 days), coffee staining followed by mechanical brushing (3h / day - staining and 40 cycles - brushing / 30 days) and storage in distilled water at 37ºC for 30 days. To verify the polishing efficiency in stain removal, samples will be polished using two systems: resin polishing tips (Enhance® Dentsply / Caulk, Milford, DE, USA) or ceramic polishing tips (Eve Diapol, EVE - Ernst Vetter GmbH, Pforzheim, Germany) according to the recommended for each material; the hybrid material will be polished with both tips (n=10) in order to compare the efficiency of the polishing. The color stability, translucency, whiteness index for dentistry (WID) and surface roughness will be calculated appropriately, and the microscopic confocal laser scan images will be analyzed qualitatively. Statistical analysis will be performed according to the normality of the results, with the appropriate post-hoc test.
