Abstract

With the increasing in the development of restorative materials, new composite resins and glass ionomer cements were launched in the dental market. These materials allow the insertion of single increments, an advantageous feature in reducing the time spent in clinical procedure. Thus, the objectives of this study will be to evaluate the surface microhardness and roughness of single increment restorative materials after different challenges. Two types of composite resins will be evaluated, one of incremental insertion (Filtek Z350 XT, 3M ESPE, St Paul, MN, USA) and another of single increment (Filtek Bulk Fill, 3M ESPE, St Paul, MN, USA); as well as two high viscosity glass ionomer cements, one without coat (Ketac Molar EasyMix, 3M ESPE, St Paul, MN, USA) and another with nanoparticulate coat (Equia Forte + Equia Forte Coat, GC America Inc Alsip, IL, USA). For each restorative material, 30 discs (5 mm in diameter and 4 mm in thickness) will be made, totaling 120 specimens. Half of the specimens' surface will be covered with resistant acid varnish and the other half will be immersed in artificial saliva (control), subjected to pH cycling or immersion in Coke. The surface microhardness and roughness of the test and control sides will be evaluated. The obtained data will be analyzed for normality and homogeneity and submitted to the specific statistical tests for each analysis. The level of significance will be set at 5%.
