Abstract The evolution in micro-manufacturing processes enables the creation of micro and nano-structures where it is possible to control the propagation of light and its interaction with matter more efficiently. In particular, the large confinement produced by these structures can significantly increase the interaction between optical and acoustic modes, giving rise to a series of fundamental and applied demonstrations, such as the observation of Brillouin scattering due to Rayleigh waves, generation slow tunable light, cooling of phonons and scattering processes Brillouin stimulated. In this context he will do a guided study of several theoretical aspects of the propagation of light and its interaction with acoustic phonons, as well as being directly involved in experimental activities to characterize the Brillouin scattering in conventional guides (fibers). The student will also be trained in the basic micro-manufacturing experimental techniques and in the end will do Brillouin scattering measures in micro-structured guides. | |
