Abstract

Despite the recommendation of the World Health Organization about cesarean delivery rates, Brazil is still one of the world championships in high rates of the procedure. Vaginal delivery is the safest method for mother and baby. However unnecessary interventions are still carried out in Brazil, which can increase risks to both mother and baby and lead to physical and psychological consequences. The use of questionnaires is the most adequate quantitative method to identify the satisfaction of these women during labor and delivery in hospitals. Analyzing national and international questionnaires, the Birth Satisfaction Scale-Revised (BSS-R) developed in the United Kingdom, was identified as an important measuring instrument of women's perception during labor and delivery. Objective: Translation and cultural adaptation of the Birth Satisfaction Scale-Revised (BSS-R) for Brazilian Portuguese. Patients and method: The questionnaire will be translated from English into Portuguese with posterior back translation to verify possible structural modifications. Then the questionnaire will be applied in a pilot test in forty women 48 hours after giving birth at Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Santos. They will also identify the understanding of the issues. After ten days the questionnaire will be reapplied (test-retest) verifying its reproducibility.
