Abstract

This research project has the objective to execute a molecular characterization of Giardia spp. in horses from the region of Araçatuba, São Paulo. A total of 100 fecal samples will be collected directly from the rectal ampulla and processed through the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) for amplification of the small subunit of the ribosomal RNA gene. All positive samples from this gene will be characterized for partial amplification of beta-giardin, glutamate dehydrogenase and triose-phosphate isomerase genes. The sequences obtained will be analyzed by phylogenetic positioning. The analysis of the results of this study will be carried out by descriptive statistics and inferential analysis (Fisher's Exact Test) to verify the association between the presence and absence of this pathogen with each of the studied variables (sex and age).
