Abstract

The reading fluency, defined by the ratio between the numbers of words read correctly and the time spent, is directly related to textual comprehension. Considering that the level of difficulty of textual material affects fluency in reading and its comprehension, this work aims to evaluate the level of difficulty of narratives elaborated according to the four units of a program of teaching of reading of words (ALEPP®), classify in order of increasing difficulty and to verify if there is difference in the reading of the narratives between public and private school children. Thirty children will participate in this study, 15 of public education (G1) and 15 of private (G2), all of the 3rd. year of Elementary School, readers and without diagnosis of special educational needs. Four narratives will be adopted with the same amount of repetition of target words taught by ALEPP® and the procedure will be divided into stages: Screening Stage: selection of student sample readers; reading of one of the two books of Estrelinha Collection 1 will be subdivided into groups (G1 and G2), five of each class; reading of the four ALEPP® narratives, in the same order for all participants, followed by the assessment of fluency and reading comprehension. The average of all measures obtained individually for each of the four narratives will be calculated considering the two groups of participants and will be compared statistically. If there is a difference in the difficulty level of the chips, this may affect the order of exposure to the ALEPP® teaching units.
