Abstract

The proposed project aims to study how, amid the constant metabolic demand of the brain, memories are stored and become stable, durable and persist over time. The novelty and significance of this work is that little is known about the mechanisms supporting the memory processed and stored by the young brain, the developing brain. The studies described in the present proposal will contribute significantly to the field of memory, identifying proteins and metabolic changes that occur with early experiences to potentially facilitate memory processes throughout life. This approach is innovative as it represents an unprecedented tool in the study of early memory during development; relating behavioral, protein and metabolic aspects. The introduction of more natural behavioral procedures presents a more flexible approach through which the finer holdings of memory storage can occur. The contributions of this paper will help to provide the basic and necessary knowledge to clarify issues related to memory improvement, which in the future may be applied during aging and/or in neurodegenerative processes.
