Abstract

The Brazilian modernist movement was built collectively in the succession of ideals, groups and periodicals that emerged throughout the 1920s, a journey through which the iconic São Paulo event of 1922 unfolded and established roots in other parts of the country. As a medium of agile dissemination and able to accompany the mutability of modernist ideas, the journals became the quintessential mouthpiece of the movement, being an important source for its study. From this framework of modernist magazines, there are a plurality of projects that respond to their own questions and challenges of their time and space in this constructive conjunction of the movement and, in this sense, the state of Minas Gerais was the scene of two important periodicals: A Revista (Belo Horizonte, 1925-1926) and Verde (Cataguases, 1927-1928, 1929), that together they drew the plural experiences of provincial modernism. Analyzing them in a systematic way and without losing sight that the internal characteristics of the periodicals dialogued with the historical context in which they arose and also with the other journals that were contemporaneous to them, it constitutes a task that can collaborate to resize their performance inside the modernist movement. Already the investigation of the spaces of sociability of the modernism of Minas Gerais can clarify a conjuncture that involved different actors, ideas and groups in a complex game of approximations, tensions and exchanges in this broad project of (re)construction of national culture and literature, modernism.
