Abstract

The objective of this research project is to evaluate the feed efficiency, temperament, ingestive behavior and metabolic parameters of water buffaloes from three genetic groups in the post-weaning period. The experiment will be carried out at the Center for Tropical Research in Buffaloes (CPTB), at the Experimental Farm Edgárdia, in Botucatu, a unit of the School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of the Sao Paulo State University "Júlio de Mesquita Filho", located in the center-west of the State from Sao Paulo. Fifty-five buffaloes (25 animals of each breed: Jafarabadi, Mediterranea and Murrah) will be used, born and weaned, with weight and mean age of 180 kg and 210 days, respectively. Will be determined: 1- consumption and individual eating behavior (Intergado System); 2- animal temperament; 3-metabolic parameters for the evaluation of metabolic and behavioral parameters (glucose, insulin, urea, creatine kinase, total plasma protein, aspartate transaminase (AST), leptin, bilirubin, cortisol and allantoin). For the statistical analysis of the data, the PROC MIXED procedure of the statistical package SAS (2002) will be used.
