Abstract

This research aims to analyze the work of Robert Louis Stevenson, the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, having as a starting point the presence of science and religion as structuring elements of the central conflict of romance. This problem will be approached according to two lines of research: the first takes into consideration the Calvinist formation of the author and the literary tradition that dialogues with the religious ideas through the subject of forbidden knowledge; the second considers the influence of the works on the contemporary human psyche of Stevenson.
