Action of different types of mouthwashes (without and with alcohol) on the optical characteristics of contemporary temporary restorations

Abstract

When during the prosthetic rehabilitative treatment need accomplish periodontal surgeries use of temporary restoration is necessary for a prolonged perioduntil tissue healing occurs. In these cases, patients use monthwashes as adjuvants in plaque control. Thus, it is important to know the optical characteristics of the contemporary provisional restorations, in front of the mouthwash action. The present study will evaluate the color stability ("E), translucency (TP) and degree of contrast (CR) of different types of resins used to make temporary restorations after several periods of immersion in many different mouthwash. A total of 200 specimens with 10 × 10 × 3 (± 0.005) mm were divided into 20 groups (n = 10) according to the material and immersion medium. Four different dental resins will be evaluated: (RAT - thermo-polymerizable acrylic resin (Classical), RAA - self-cured acrylic resin (Alike), RB - nanoparticulate bisacrylic resin (Protem4) and RCAD - prefabricated polymer block (PMMA) for the CAD system will be immersed in the following solutions: (AD) distilled water, (PA) Periotrat and (LA) Listerine Cool Mint (with alcohol in its compositions), (PZ) Periotrat and (LZ) Listerine Zero in several periods of immersion (15,30 and 60 days). To simulate the use of the rinses by the patient, the specimens will be stored in an oven (37 ± 1 ° C) during all periods of analysis and will be immersed in the specific rinses of each group, during 2 min per day, under vibration. The readings of the optical characteristics of the specimens will be realized by visible ultraviolet reflection spectrophotometry, model UV-2450 in two backgrounds (black and white), before and after each immersion period. The data obtained will be submitted to the appropriate statistical analysis to compare the values obtained with the specimens.
