Abstract

The analysis of natural products, often as part of complex mixtures, is very challenging, but identifying the structure of their components is essential for drug discovery and development. In the context of molecular structure assignment of mixture components, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is one of the most suitable non-destructive analytical methods. Its advances in the last decade have not yet reached end-users to a full extent, not taking the full advantage of the state-of-art spectrometer capabilities. This is partially a reflection of the small number of researchers working in NMR development, even though the technique is of large importance for both Academia and industry. In the present project we propose new and improved tools for spectroscopists to tackle challenges existing in natural products samples, by developing and introducing new methodologies in the NMR centre at UNICAMP`s Institute of Chemistry. This will be achieved by a series of sub-projects, involving development of NMR pulse sequences and processing tools for multidimensional experiments, such as 3D TOCSY-DOSY and HSQC-DOSY, which are currently being underused due to the lack of processing capabilities. The most modern NMR methods (such as pure shift NMR) are also going to be implemented for the analysis of natural product mixtures.
