Abstract The project aims at educating the student on the concepts involved in the formulation of abelian and non-abelian gauge theories, that govern three of the four interactions of nature, namely, electromagnetism and the weak and strong nuclear interactions. The student will develop, during his master's degree, research on the use of the integral equations of Yang-Mills to evaluate magnetic charges dynamically (and not topologically) conserved on classical solutions of magnetic monopoles in gauge theories as well as grand unified theories (GUT). In addition the student will also investigate the construction of classical self-dual solutions of some modifications of non-abelian gauge theories. (AU) | |
