Abstract

The Deep Western Boundery Current (DWBC) is an integral part of the MOC (Meridional Overturning Circulation) and is therefore of extreme importance for the transport of heat from the planet and consequently exerts greatinfluence in the understanding of global climate change. The South Atlantic, and particularly the Southwest Atlantic, may be one of the most unexploredportions of the world ocean. Therefore, it is imperative that we minimally consolidate the knowledge about the DWBC trajectory along the Brazilian continental margin. The main objective of this work on DWBC is to characterize and investigate the dynamics of the deep geostrophic circulation patterns associated with DWBC between 10°S and 34.5°S, with emphasis on what happens south of the Vitória Trindade Ridge (VTR) and, therefore, south of 20.5°S, in the region that DWBC reattachs. In addition to using the HYCOM global circulation model to understand its seasonal variability and how this may affect transport. Weekly climatology sets (~ 8 days) will also be used and comparable with the results obtained by the synoptic cruises. The database in question is the ARMOR3D of the French Corpernicus System. (AU)
