Abstract

Brazilian society presents various forms of inequality, such as gender, creating contexts susceptible of violence against women. This problem has visibility and relevance due to the new roles of women and the new patterns of dissemination of information. This project seeks to research the social representations built by residents of the city of Ourinhos (SP) on the female gender and the violence against women, in addition to characterizing the respective cases registered in the Women's Defense Department of the municipality. Among the procedures are methodological interviews with techniques specific to the theory of representations social and documentary surveys. As results, we expect to identify the structure of the social representations formed, with the patterns of inequality and violence present in the municipality, contributing to the understanding of the current trends about the problem.
