Abstract

One of the greatest achievements of humankind was the increase in life expectance. However, demographic transition also represents a great challenge for the present century. In Brazil, the 60+ segment is the one that increases most in the population, with growth rates of more than 4% per year in the period from 2012 to 2022 and is expected to reach 73.5 million persons in 2060. Encouraging actions that promote healthy lifestyle habits, such as the regular practice of physical activity, become fundamental for an old age with quality of life. In this scenario, mobile applications may prove to be a very innovative tool to encourage healthy aging. However, many applications are not used again and the main reason for the failure of mobile applications is the lack of sense of usefulness, trust and usability. Therefore, we intend to delineate here a qualitative focus group study and a three-step evaluation for the co-design of a cross-cultural motivational application developed between Brazil and the Netherlands to aid physical activities practice in urban environments (Process: 16/50249-3) . After a focus group pilot study, we will use the recommendations to guide a conceptual design workshop and then build a prototype. This mock-up will then be re-designed by users of physical activity applications with a method called FocusGroup +. The prototype will be developed from the proposed re-design and evaluated for its usability and end-users satisfaction. In order to measure usability, we will evaluate the interface based on a set of rules called Heuristics and an analysis proposed by the model PACMAD (People at the center of mobile application development). We hope to identify the elements necessary for the development of the concept and design vision of the PAUL application, focusing on its usability, in order to improve the end-users experience. Also, we expect to collaborate with the literature on the subject and to support future research with a possibility of action strategy. In addition, as a final product motivate good habits, especially for adults and elderly living in urban areas, through the practice of physical activity with mobile assistance. (AU)
