Abstract

Under a given set of experimental conditions, potential (or current) oscillations can be observed during the electro-oxidation of small organic molecules, such as methanol, formic acid, ethylene glycol and glucose, for example. Variables like identity of the organic molecule, temperature, applied potential, nature and superficial state of the catalyst, supporting electrolyte, etc., directly affect the frequency, waveform, and amplitude of those oscillations. When electrochemical oscillators are coupled, the synchronization phenomena can be observed, which has a direct influence on the evolution of oscillations as a function of time. In this sense, identifying, exploring and characterizing the synchronization phenomena using the coupling of electrochemical oscillators has been shown promising and possible to be applied in different areas. Thus, in this work, we aim to study how current oscillations that occur during the electro-oxidation of molecules such as methanol, formic acid and glucose behave under the unidirectional coupling of two electrochemical oscillators. Particularly, we are interested in investigating how the identity of the master system affects the evolution of the slave, in terms of frequency, amplitude and waveform of oscillations. (AU)
