Abstract

The aim of this project is to synthesize colloidal oxide nanoparticles, such as CeO2 and Fe2O3, with sizes of 5-20 nm for the production of nanostructured oxide catalysts to be applied in bi-reforming of CH4. The oxide nanoparticles will be obtained dispersed in liquid medium, and will be impregnated in high surface area supports, such as MgAl2O4, with loadings of 2-20 wt%. This strategy will allow evaluating the impact of the nano-oxide phase in the catalytic properties. Spherical nanoparticles with diameters in the 5-20 nm range will be obtained by controlling the synthesis conditions. The particles will be impregnated on the support, with contents of 3-20 wt% by incipient wet impregnation and the dry solids will be calcined and characterized. Experiments to identify the stability of carbonaceous species on the surfaces of the supports will be done through the decomposition of organic molecules and subsequent burning.
