Abstract This research aims to a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying the effects observed from the inflow of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into developing economies. To this end, the proposed effort is twofold: (i) a theoretical approach to relations between developed and developing countries, seeking to understand the effects of physical capital flows on the structures of the recipient countries and the results on the pattern of uneven development; ii) a case study for the Brazilian economy, using an empirical exercise in the search for illuminating evidence on the effects of FDI flows on variables of interest detected in literature review and modeling, especially labor productivity growth, capital accumulation , components of the balance-of-payments and measures of income inequality, always taking into account short-term and long-term relationships between variables and possibilities of double causalities (temporal). The contribution of this research is based on a better understanding of the relationship between FDI inflows and economic development in developing countries. It may indicate possible paths to be followed in the theoretical developments and eventual implications of government actions, especially for the Brazilian case. (AU) | |
