Abstract

This project aims to raise the discussion about refugee women in Brazil regarding their phase of cultural transition and adaptation in Brazil's society. A person in a situation of refuge is considered vulnerable. When this person is a refugee and is recognized as female, it's condition of vulnerability is further intensified. In addition to the difficulties faced in her home country, as a woman, the refugee is more likely to suffer violence on her escape route, especially in refugee camps. The woman, even when she is already in the receiving country, remains vulnerable because she is a woman and because of cultural differences, where each one has a gender role. It is important to look from an intersectional perspective in recognizing that gender, race, and class are factors that interfere with the experience and the roles of a person in society. Brazil, being a country that receives refugees regardless of their origin, must pay attention to this topic. Therefore, it is necessary the study of this subject as that the Brazil's failings and development in what concerns to gender and refuge are pointed out.
