Abstract

This international research internship project seeks to deepen the research on methods, tools and research techniques for the analysis of open space appropriation in multifamily housing projects. Motivated by discussions in the literature about the importance of open areas in the integration of housing projects with the city, in the dynamization of life and in the sociability among residents, the master's degree research intends to analyze the project on a scale still little investigated, that is, in the relationship between the building and the city, which occurs through the open areas. One of the main questions of this research concerns the analysis of the appropriation by the residents, trying to identify if there is the intensification of its use as open space and leisure, or if there are processes of underutilization, depredation or alteration of uses. Based on the partial results obtained so far and on the difficulties found during this process, the international research internship presents itself as an opportunity to unfold this line of research, thus enabling the deepening of behavioral and spaces appropriation analysis in housing projects. The research internship seeks to investigate in detail the tools and techniques used by the Nucleus of Urban and Territorial Studies (NUT) of the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering (LNEC) of Lisbon, Portugal, whose proposals have already been references for the elaboration of the scripts of behavioral and of appropriation analysis of open space in the master's degree research. As a result of this research stage, it is hoped to contribute to the formulation and consolidation of techniques that can be used to collect data and to analyze the appropriation of open spaces in housing projects.
