Abstract

This project aims to investigate the possibilities of the concept of representativeness as a tool to integrate the theater scene and the social reality of specific communities. In order to do so, it proposes the construction of a theoretical framework that allows an in-depth study of the implications and distinctions between the concepts of representation and representativeness in the contemporary Brazilian theatrical production. The project also proposes, as object, a practical part that consists of the monitoring and analysis of the process of creation of the play 'Refúgio', the new work of Cia. Marginal. In this new work, the company based in the Maré favela in Rio de Janeiro intends to meet the population of Angolan immigrants and refugees who live in the community, seeking not only to give visibility to this unknown face of Rio's urban negritude, but also proposing new ways of looking at - and relating to it. Finally, it is intended that these two parts converge in the formulation of an understanding of representativeness as a possibility of creating a theater scene that evolves towards the other.
