Tracking of renal disease in elderly caregivers enrolled in primary health care

Abstract

There is a progressive increase in the number of elderly people providing care to another elderly person. The task of caring can bring benefits, yet caregivers are more prone to comorbidities that are identified as risk factors for chronic kidney disease. Thus, the objective of this study is to track hidden kidney disease in elderly caregivers enrolled in primary health care. This proposal was elaborado a partir da primeira coleta de dados realizada em 2014 no âmbito do Programa Saúde da Família do Município de São Carlos, interior do Estado de São Paulo. The present study was carried out by the Municipal Health Department of São Carlos and by the Human Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), CAAE 46431315.3.0000.5504. This is a cross-sectional and quantitative study, with a sample of 351 elderly caregivers who will be reassessed with the sociodemographic and health characterization questionnaire. Characterization of the context of care and screening of hidden kidney disease with a Screening for Occult Renal Disease (SCORE). Interviews occurred at the caregivers' home after a previous appointment. This project could guide new strategies to prevent modifiable factors, avoiding the evolution to renal loss, contributing to reduce the burden on the health network. (AU)
