Abstract

The grantee will work with the main researcher from FGV/EBAPE and other members of the consortium. The scholarship will support post-doctoral research on the food-water-energy nexus (FWEN) in cities using green and blue infrastructure (GBI). This request refers to an initial 12-month support, eligible for another 24 months extension, totalling 36 months. The scholarship will comply with FAPESs regulations for post-doctoral research grants linked to Thematic Projects.Research for this scholarship is part of the project Understanding Innovative Initiatives for Governing Food, Water and Energy Nexus in Cities (IFWEN), funded by the partnership between FAPESP, Belmont Forum and JPI Urban Europe within the Sustainable Urbanisation Global Initiative - SUGI (https://jpi-urbaneurope.eu/calls/sugi/), and developed by the IFWEN consortium, with partners from six countries. It aims to quantify nexus and understand trade-offs between food, water and energy (FEW) in urban activities.Together with partners in the international consortium, the research will develop a methodology to assess quantitatively and qualitatively the changes in the FWEN using GBI. Activities shall include gathering and analysing data on FWEN inititiaves in urban cases, particularly those using GBI, available from ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability database. Mapping will include interviews, scientific articles in journals and news in the media on the participating cities, information from municipalities´official websites and other publicly available sources. The research will be undertaken by a team overseen by the main researcher from FGV/EBAPE, together with other IFWEN partners in the international consortium.This Project will contribute to the understanding of aspects related to the creation of capabilities of local actors to govern trade-offs in the FWEN in cities. Besides de methodology described above, outputs will include two high quality academic articles to be published internationally each year, and a final report containing analyses of innovative FWEN initiatives using GBI and its applicability in Brazil, particularly in the state of São Paulo.
