Abstract

This is a proposal for a twelve-month internship at the Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, under the supervision of Prof. Duraisingh, who is an international expert in the area of investigation of the biology of the blood stages of Plasmodium. The central objective of this stage will be to investigate the biological activity of antibodies potentially capable of inhibiting the invasion of P. vivax into reticulocytes from immortalized cell lines. The project to be developed will benefit from the extensive experience in culture of P. vivax developed in the laboratory Malaria and the Red Bood Cell, coordinated by Prof. Duraisingh, and culture of the parasite in red blood cells enriched from bone marrow and immortalized cells.
