Abstract The purpose of this project is the initiation of the student in the area of open quantum systems. For this purpose, specific topics of the area of quantum optics will be initially studied and discussed. An approach will be made according to the method of master equations, the standard formalism for open quantum systems. The project will involve the study of the evolution of (monomode) states of the quantized cavity field under the action of a thermal bath. It will be investigated, in particular, the effect of the temperature of the bath when its initial state is modified by the addition of photons. Although it is possible to treat the simpler cases analytically, we will adopt a predominately numerical approach, using, for example, the open code software QuTip. | |
