Abstract

Disorders of mineral and bone metabolism are one of the complications of chronic kidney disease. Bone diseases are classified as high (fibrous osteitis secondary to secondary hyperparathyroidism and mixed disease) and low remodeling (osteomalacia and adynamic bone disease - DOA). The DOA is characterized by a very reduced cellular activity and is associated to the increase of fractures, vascular calcification and increase of mortality of the affected patients. This study aims to understand the mechanisms that lead to DOA, especially the role of the osteocyte, a cell of the osteoblastic lineage that plays an important role in bone remodeling. Thus, we evaluated the expression of proteins produced by osteocytes, such as FGF-23, ²-Catenin and Sclerostin, by immunohistochemistry in uremic animals with DOA. These animals were induced to DOA by surgical procedure (Parathyroidectomy and Nefrectomy 5/6) and divided into groups, untreated and treated with calcium-based phosphorus chelators (calcium carbonate) and without calcium (Sevelamer's carbonate) with diets of different concentrations of P, that is, normal (0.6%) and high (1.2%)
