Abstract

This research investigates the voice as a possible central motor in musical composition. Unlike usual relations of the voice as carrier of language, or versatile instrument, or even as manipulable sonority, this work searches for a direct and constitutive relation between voice and composition, in which composition arise from the voice, not about it. Therefore, the relational unicity of voice is investigated as its most fundamental characteristic, as well as the Deleuzian concepts of machinic thinking and assemblage, to understand the creative desire as an action which defines composition as originating in voice and body. From this understanding, the ways, in which a creative process can come from voice and body, are questioned, for a more direct relation also between artists and spectators, between people. This investigation takes place both through conceptual elaboration and by compositional and analytical practice and experimentation.
