Abstract

Organizations, due mainly to globalization and technological development, have faced a highly competitive environment, so they need to react quickly to constant challenges and seek competitive differentials that can ensure their survival. Given this scenario, knowledge occupies a strategic position because it enables the creation of sustainable competitive advantages. In order to benefit from the benefits of knowledge management, it is necessary to consider that organizational memory plays a fundamental role, so that it must be considered in a model of knowledge management implementation and in the proposal of strategic guidelines. Therefore, studies that consider the characteristics of organizational memory, knowledge, as well as critical success factors and implementation models, must be carried out with the aim of developing innovative models and strategic guidelines that can contribute to organizational efficiency. Implementation models and critical success factors of knowledge management have already demonstrated their benefits in several studies and experience reports that prove their effectiveness, but new models and guidelines need to be developed so that the specific characteristics of organizational memory can be considered. This research proposes to develop a model of implementation of knowledge management oriented to organizational memory, as well as to propose strategic guidelines based on the critical success factors related to this management that consider the organizational memory with the intention of contributing to the significant increase of the rate of successful implementation of knowledge management in the organizational context and propitiate the construction of sustainable competitive advantages. In order to do so, this work, in addition to an in-depth bibliographical survey, proposes to develop a model of knowledge management implementation and propose strategic guidelines based on the critical success factors of knowledge management focused on organizational memory. The proposed model will be tested in Spanish organizations, a country that stands out due to studies related to organizational memory. (AU)
