Abstract

The research will investigate the urbanistic projects of Joaquim Guedes, architect from São Paulo, specifically the plans of the four new cities projected by his office, Brasília (1957), Marabá (1973), Caraíba (1976) and Barcarena (1978). Joaquim Guedes maintained an active architecture and urban planning office as well as a long career as professor of urban planning and design at FAUUSP. His doctoral thesis was about the plan he made for Porto Velho Plano de Ação Imediata (GUEDES, 1972) and his livre docência thesis was about Caraíba plan (GUEDES, 1981). The research will be developed in FAU-USP LabPlan, currently responsible for the organization of the Joaquim Guedes Fund, an unpublished collection of documents of the architect including drawings, reports and correspondence related to the projects mentioned before. The Joaquim Guedes Fund will be articulated with the architect's collections in the Library of FAUUSP. The main objectives of the research are the analysis of the documents related to the four projects, contextualizing them within the work of Joaquim Guedes and both within the panorama of Brazilian urbanism between the contest for the pilot plan of Brasília and the beginning of the 1980's
