Abstract

The design programme is an analytical stage where general characteristics of the design are discussed which will highly influence the final solution. For school architecture, important information are the Design Patterns (DPs) and the guidelines. The awareness of these elements, from the programme (briefing), by architecture professionals, is fundamental, and the visualization of the same elements through graphic representation assists the design process. To that extent the use of Augmented Reality (AR) can broaden the understanding of information, enabling new methods of interpretation. The mains goal is to comprehend the graphical representation of information related to architectural programme of educational buildings and their insertion into AR. In order to do so, an analysis of DPs and school guidelines' graphic representation in AR is intended, as well as an evaluation of architects' interaction with the tool and generated models. The development of an application of AR is proposed to investigate these aspects. Experiments with architects with experience in school projects will be conducted. This study has an exploratory-descriptive character and methodology based on Design Science Research. The results will be analysed through qualitative approach, by the observations related to the development of graphic representations in AR, and the use of the AR application by architects. The expected results are the translation (into representation) of the concepts of DPs and school guidelines in AR, and the use of this tool in design programme, in addition to the AR application. The research will contribute to the advancement in the area of architectural graphic representation supporting the progress of the use of AR technology in architecture, from the early stages of project development.
