Abstract Polyimides based on phthalic and naphthalic dianhidrides have been reported to present distinct dielectrical behavior. While phthalic polyimides are typically used as insulators, naphthalic polyimides are expected to be introduced as active layer in organic optoelectronic devices (e.g. light emitting diodes and field-effect transistors) in the future. However, because of the prevailing difficulty to synthesize and mold polynaphthalimides, there is a lack of studies relating the structure of polyimides and polynaphthalimides to their dielectricproperties. In the same direction, there is little literature concerning graphene/polynaphthalimides composites. As graphene is widely used as filler in composites to achieve higher conductivity, the dielectrical behavior of such composites is of great relevance. The objective of this research internship project is to provide a better understanding of the dielectrical behavior of copolynaphthalimides of different compositions and establish structure-property relationships. The study will be based on Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy (BDS) of polymers and composites fabricated in Brazil through the main research project, although other techniques may be used if necessary. With BDS, it is also expected to obtain the relaxation spectra, which can provide information on glass transition temperature, melting temperature (if applicable) and possible secondary relaxation processes.
