Abstract

Performance of cattle in northern Australia, just like in Brazil, depends on the capacity of the animals to efficiently extract nutrients during periods of restricted availability. Therefore, the ability of the animal to recycle nitrogen back to the rumen, instead of eliminating in the urine, is crucial. The internship will be developed from August to November 2019 at The University of Queensland, Campus Gatton, under the supervision of researcherLuis Felipe Prada e Silva. During the BEPE period the trainee will assist in the third phase of the project "Nitrogen recycling as a determinant for feed efficiency of Bos indicus cattle" where it will be possible to follow the field experiment, to learn intra-jugular infusion of chromium-EDTA techniques to evaluate the efficiency of microbial protein production and infusion of 15N-enriched urea to evaluate nitrogen recycling, perform laboratory analyzes and discuss the results. In this internship also will be possibly discuss and evaluate the performance results, ruminal parameters and nitrogen utilization efficiency of the Fapesp 2018/06836-7 project entitled "Influence of rumen non-degradable protein supplementation on pasture intake, metabolism and performance of Nelore cattle", this exchange of information will result in better final discussion of the data related to her dissertation. Additionally, the period abroad also can facilitate internationalization of research conducted by the trainee in the state of São Paulo to meet reviewers of international journals of high impact that work in the institution of the training or at scientific conferences.
