Abstract

Sensing based on electrical impedance measurements is used to detect changes in the physical and chemical properties of samples, permitting the automation of multiple diagnostic and monitoring processes. The use of biosensors and multisensors offers greater sensitivity and selectivity, for which impedance spectra are measured with numerous measurements, usually with an expensive commercial impedance analyzer that is not portable. In this Project, we shall develop a portable impedance analyzer for multiple automated measurements with sensor and biosensor arrays. The development steps will include design, prototyping, fabrication, implementation of dedicated software and testing with sensors and biosensors. The architecture proposed for the system, to be validated and explored throughout the Project, includes a microcomputer, a microcontroller and circuits for wireless communication, wave generation, filtering, analog multiplexing, amplification, AD conversion and display. The operation of the analyzer will be tested in collaboration with researchers from the São Carlos Institute of Physics who employ sensors and multisensors in the diagnosis of diseases and for detecting contamination in water and food.
