Abstract

Hydrogen obtained through water splitting can be regarded as an alternative to fossil fuels. Despite its seeming simplicity, the water oxidation reaction is kinetically sluggish and thermodynamically unfavorable. In this context, a catalyst is required to overcome the energetic barrier. One of the major challenges in this area is the understanding of the mechanisms of reaction of catalysts based on Earth-abundant elements, which can operate in mild conditions of reaction. Therefore, the objective of this project is the elucidation of the mechanisms of water oxidation by Prussian blue analogues catalysts working at pH=7. To achieve the expected results, ex situ characterization, and spectroelectrochemistry studies for in situ in operando mode will be used. (AU)
