Abstract

We intend to analyse Bergson's influence on the phenomenology of Renaud Barbaras. We will examine central texts in order to highlight the convergence of intentions and problems in the two philosophical projects, while we explore the phenomenologist's criticism of Bergson's "positivist" realism. The methodological divergence is at the center of our analyses: confronting the Bergsonian intuition with the attempt to follow the precepts of the a priori correlational, we will discuss the passage to cosmology from the desire as original intentionality, central point for Barbaras. On the other hand, we will show that the Bergsonian philosophy of life renews the study of existence through the characterization of the subject, life and world as mobility. The relationship between subjective life and totality in Bergson anticipates, therefore, the recovery of the theme of the opening of the subject to the world, which Barbaras performs according to the dynamics of manifestation. This analysis will focus on specific concepts: the body, the affectivity and the motricity that are inseparable from life, aspects whose articulation conditions the self-overcoming of phenomenology. We will also try to show that these notions play an analogous role in the context of an ontological phenomenology of desire and a metaphysics of time. (AU)
