Correlation between heritage language and root music: the São Paulo lexicon of the 20th century

Abstract

This project aims the study of the most recurrent and usual lexical items in popular music in São Paulo society during the 20th century. To do so, it is based on the assumption that root music gives rise to texts (and, therefore, words and lexical constructions) that express immaterial cultural heritages. These heritages, we hypothesize, are equalized to the extent of these reverberations, which makes radio at the beginning of the century a potent vector of lexicon. As a methodological clipping, we researched the successful musical production created by Paulistas and from them we study the lexicon. As auxiliary research instruments, biographical, lexicographical and etymological works are included, which become sources for consult and beaconing in the face of socio-cultural history (especially of migratory currents) in São Paulo. The hypothesis to be verified is based in the updating of these echoes in different moments of the twentieth century and in its renewal in function of the social dynamics. The starting point for data collection is the inauguration of the first São Paulo radio station, which would lead to a more pronounced sharing (and possible normalization) of the lexicon in São Paulo, which would allow to discuss a process of consolidation of identitary roots, as well as intervening factors.
